How To Keep Your Shoes From Smelling With Home Remedies

Your shoes smell if they smell bad. There are ways to reduce odors and preserve your footwear for as long as you can.

Whether you love leather boots or ballet flats, you can deodorize them using these home remedies. Nobody likes smelly shoes.

The smell can linger for days on end. It can stick to you even after you wash your feet or take a shower... and even when you change into fresh socks and shoes, the stench can linger for days on end.

If you're running a marathon or hiking a mountain trail, it's not fun to be surrounded by shoes that smell like feet... or worse yet, feet that smell like shoes!

Can you stop your smelly shoes from stinking?

How To Keep Your Shoes From Smelling With Home Remedies is easy listed below are six... and keep your family's noses happy too!

#1 - Baking Soda This is probably one of the simplest ways to keep your shoes from smelling. Sprinkle a teaspoon of baking soda... and a little vinegar... into the bottom of your shoe, then let the baking soda sit overnight. When you take your shoes out of the closet in the morning, they should smell fresh and... well... not smelly!

#2 - Baking Soda and Vinegar/Lemon Juice This method works a lot like the first one, but with a bit more of a punch. Mix one part baking soda with three parts water... then mix in a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar. Let the mixture sit overnight and in the morning, shake it into your shoes and lightly scrub it with a soft-bristle brush to remove any excess baking soda.

#3 - Dryer Sheets These thin sheets of fabric can be rolled up and popped into your shoes to deodorize them. Apply a dryer sheet to your shoes and rub them a few times until they're completely saturated. The sheets will absorb odors and can help mask the smell of your feet as well!

#4 - Vinegar and Club Soda If you opt for club soda over water, you don't have to worry about diluting the acid in plain white vinegar, and you can get similar results. Simply pour a cup or two of white vinegar into a plastic baggie, and clip it onto a hanger in your closet or a small hook near your shoes. Fill the bag with club soda every now and then to freshen it, and whenever your shoes start to smell funky, you can just pick up the bag and shake it all around until your shoes are scented once again.

#5 - Rubbing Alcohol and Lemon or Lime Another simple home remedy is rubbing alcohol and citrus juice. Mix equal parts of rubbing alcohol and lemon juice or lime juice... and this will leave your leather shoes smelling fresh! Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil... like lavender oil... to the alcohol and lemon juice mix if you want... and this will help keep your shoes from smelling awful in your closet as well!

#6 - Baking Soda, Vinegar, and Lemon Juice/Orange Oil The final trick requires mixing some baking soda and white vinegar with some lemon juice and essential oil and dried flowers or sugar. After you wash your shoes, sprinkle the baking soda and vinegar mix into the shoes and let them sit overnight. In the morning, you can brush off the baking soda and scrub your shoes with the soft-bristle brush and lemon juice/sugar mix. When you put the shoes on again, they should smell fresh!

These home remedies not only mask the smell in your shoes and soften leather shoes... but they'll also help keep your feet, socks, and ankles smelling fresh as well!

7 Natural Remedies For Itchy Skin

When you're exposed to allergens, your skin can become inflamed and irritated. Some natural home remedies can help you get rid of the itch quickly.

Your skin can be irritated by a variety of things - from acne to sunburn to pollen allergies, just to name a few. But there's one common dry skin problem that everyone experiences - and it's caused by too many allergies.

When you suffer from some kind of allergy or intolerance, your immune system overreacts to something harmless, such as pollen or dust mites.

Your immune system produces histamines to deal with the allergen, but it causes your blood vessels to dilate (widen) and leak fluid. If you've experienced eczema or hives before, you know how uncomfortable that can be.

That's one reason why long-term allergies can be so uncomfortable; if they continue to happen over and over, the histamine response becomes stronger and more prolonged each time.

This exact process makes your skin itchy and uncomfortable - and why antihistamines are so popular as allergy treatments.

So, how can you soothe your itchy skin after a reaction? Some natural home remedies can help you get rid of the itch quickly.

One of the most common natural home remedies for itchy skin is to apply a cool compress for instant relief. A cool compress can soothe the inflammation of the skin and help relieve the itchiness.

Use cool compresses or ice packs to reduce inflammation of the itchy skin. Apply them every 4 to 6 hours until the itching subsides.

Or, simply dip a clean washcloth in cool water and apply generously to your skin for several minutes at a time throughout the day. This can help relieve the itching and reduce inflammation as well.

You can also mix a spoonful of baking soda with water to make a paste and apply it to your skin as a cooling compress. Baking soda has excellent anti-inflammatory properties and it's a natural antihistamine; it will relieve the itch and reduce inflammation as well.
